1) Mr. McClung is an 8th grade teacher at at Woodland Jr. High located in Fayetteville,
Arkansas. He teach social studies, Arkansas History, computer applications, and coach cross country. He lived in Arkansas all his life. Mr. McClung is also currently pursuing a masters degree at the University of Arkansas. He is in his third year of teaching. Mr. McClung has constructed his blog to help students learn by incorporating technology instead just traditional teaching methods.
2)Mr. McClung is a good educator. I like the way he as self examined his teaching method and changed it. I am glad that he saw the focus should be on the student and not on self. I also liked they way he is reaching out to the students and incorporating technology in the classroom.
3)I believe that his rules are outstanding! It is important that we give oir students a chance to have a voice in the classroom. I think that when it is time for them to listen a certain phrase should be use. I will definitely incorporate these rules in my class as a future teacher. This is give student a different outlook on coming to school to learn. This type of atmosphere bring expectation it makes the student want to learn.
4)Everyone needs to have high energy and stay positive. I believe its first because students and teachers will have to depend on each other to learn. They both need a positive environment to be productive.
5)His homework is kept at a minimum but like Dr. Strange turning in late homework is a letter drop in grade.
6)As a future teacher, I would like to incorporate a blog into my classroom. I feel that this would give the parents an opportunity to keep up with what their child is doing in the classroom. I believe this also a way to share resources and network with other students and teachers from all over.
7)I liked the link for refdesk.com it is a fact checker for the internet. The students can check this site if they are not sure about a certain event or fact. I also like discovery education which students can go to this link and explore. This site inspire students to learn in and out the classroom. It also have games and interactive activities that can be used by students. Its also helpful to teachers as well.
8)Mr.McClung safety rules are very good. I like that he gives the students rules and how he states for them to never use their last name, personal email, or chat with strangers. I also think that it is good for the parents to know who their students are communicating with. I will definitely apply safety rules to my future students because their is so much going on today as the world changes with technology.
9)The post was the Talent Show journey sing-a-long. This sing-a-long was very good. I enjoyed watching the student play and hearing the students sing-a-long.
10)It seems that he has more room to move around and that everything is broken into sections.
11) For one it is open and not just a class or school blog. It also seem as though he want the parents, teachers, and administrators, and others to explore and see what they are doing.
12)It seems that Mr. McClung keeps his blog current which sets his blog apart from others. I have visited some students blogs or class blogs that have not been updated for a while. I think he does a good job in trying to keep everyone informed about the events that is going on at the school.

Blog Assignment #11

First Graders in Ms. Cassidy's Class

I really enjoyed watching this video. It was amazing to see how these first graders were using the computer. I am glad that she has started early with showing her students how to use the computer. I believe this is important technology is the way of the world and it will forever be. This video showed the students blogging, playing games and the were even able to have access to Nintendo DS. It was very good to see a teacher that actually incorporated technology in the classroom. The title of the video Little Kids... Big Potential was a great name for the video because that is what it actually showed.

Ms. Kathy Cassidy Skype Conversation
This interview that Dr. Strange had with Ms. Cassidy was very informative. I enjoyed hearing her speak about her approach to the use of technology in the classroom. I thought that it was great that she even came up with the idea of incorporating technology in her class. I am glad that she didn't just let the students do reading projects just to make use of the five computers that she received but to actually put it to good use. I like the way she try to keep her students protected and how to properly use the computer. I also like that she informs the students parents and let them know how their child is using the computer. This is also something I will definitely use when incorporated technology in the classroom. I believe that the parents should be informed and I believe sending a form to them with all the information is the way to go. I do believe that we must keep our students as safe as when can when using the computer. I definitely feel that future teachers will need to change and incorporate technology because it is the way of the world that is constantly changing.

Blog Assignment #10

An Open Letter to Educators by Morgan Bayda

This post was about how she has felt cheated about her education at a University. It was hard for Ms. Bayda to stay awake and focus because it seemed as though she was being taught. It appeared as though her teachers scarcely wanted her to voice her opinion but to just listen to there lecture. Morgan Bayda also featured a video by Dan Brown who was a college student that was frustrated about his education. In this video, he made a lot of good points about how teachers were just giving out facts. In other words he was just being taught and not learning anything. He was just given facts and enough information so that he could give it back on a test. Dan Brown also believe that society does not care about how many facts you know. This young man drop out of school feeling like his was not learning anything and no one cared. Which is true they do not care what you know but its about do you have the knowledge or experience for what they are looking for. He stated that people have lost sight of education. I agree with Dan Brown and Morgan Bayda. I have been in class where the teacher just give enough information just so that your able to pass the test. When this happen students are not learning they are just being taught enough information to give back to the teacher. This definitely will not help students in today's society. I too have been taught majority of the years I been in school. I believe that it is about empowering students and giving them a chance to excel. I believe that students need to be educated and not taught. I think this why so many students drop out because they are not being educated. Some students even feel as though they can learn more in the streets and not the classroom. I believe that is why it is time for change. It is time for our students to be encourage about learning. I believe that teachers should do a self evaluation if the students are not doing well or excited about learning in their class.

Don't Let Them Take the Pencils Home by Tom Johnson
This story was very different. I really enjoyed reading it once I understood that there was a problem that needed a solution. The solution was to show other ways of learning. This just teaches that we have to learn the students and ways of how they learn. Teachers will definitely need to be creative in the classroom to help our to be successful in learning.

C4T Assignment

On the Other Hand By David Warlick

This post that I commented on was about remembering the old days when things were different because people did not surf, text, or tweet. This post was very enjoyable because it made me want to reflect on the good old days of just being outside playing as a child. He even listed some of his remember when moments like playing house was done with chairs and blankets and remember when we use to pretend — out loud? These were all good. In which I commented saying:I really enjoyed your I remember when post. It is very true that today’s generation would not know what to do without technology. Children do not go outside and play like I used to as a child growing up. Yes, I also had a playhouse with just chairs and a blanket. I really enjoyed my childhood because it was nothing for me and my friends to go outside to play. We played games like hopscotch, mother may I, tag, kickball, baseball and hide and go seek. Those were the good days. Thanks!

Who Among Us Is Explicitly Tasked With Helping Children Learn To Teach Themselves?
In this post he speaks about a conversation that he had with an librarian. In this conversation the librarian stated that they were the most important teacher that one will have. I find this statement to be true that librarians are important. There are so many teachers that rely on technology for everything including it teaching the students. The librarians help students become resourceful before technology became into full play. Then he made a point and saying that librarians are the first to go in budget cuts. In which I commented I believe that all positions are needed to help students to become productive in today’s society. I believe that librarians are needed because they help give us the skills of how to look up different resources. Yes, there is technology but someone has to show the students how to use it properly.

The Talent Show

This was a talent show that was put on by the Woodland Student Council. The students that participated had a chance to display their talent from garage bands to dance acts. There were several videos that Mr. McClung posted on the blog in which I was assigned to the Journey sing-along. This video was very good. I really enjoyed watching and hearing the students participate in the sing-a-long. It is good to see students share their talent with others. Great Job!

Blog Assignment #9

What I've Learned This Year By Mr. McClung

This blog was very good. Mr. McClung wrote about his experience as a new teacher. He even admitted that it started out being all about him as a teacher. Mr. McClung was worried about how his superiors looked at him, instead of his classroom. It seems as though, he had did a self evaluation by the end of the year. Mr. McClung has now shared what he learned doing his first year of teaching:
1) How to read the crowd- Let your audience drive your instruction. I agree with this because it is about the students. As a future teacher I want to make sure students are learning and not just being taught.
2) Be flexible- No lesson will be perfect. This means I will need to be understanding when the lesson or activities does not go well as plan and to keep a smile about it. Don't let your students see your frustration.
3)Communicate- its the best medicine. It is good to build strong relationships with teachers and students that is the only way a teacher can learn about their students.
4) Be reasonable- do not hold very high expectations for students. Nobody is perfect. I would not want to add this type of stress to my students. I agree with encouraging students to do their best. Its okay if they do not succeed the first time and long as they never give up on learning.
5) Don't be afraid of technology- Technology is an essential to living in today's society. I agree that we will have to incorporate technology in the classroom. It will be a must that all students learn about technology and to not be afraid of what it has to offer.
6) Listen to your students- Its important to take interest in the lives of our students. Teachers will need to know where the students come from and how they learn.
7)Never stop learning- Its never to late to change your way of thinking, learning, or style.
I believe we must continue to learn to make ourselves better educators.
